Is this the gallery of the future? The vernissage of Swiss artists Karin Schiffmann and Karl Albert Jansen took place online and offline. The two exhibited some of their works on site at the digital agency Kuble in Zurich - but most of the exhibition took place in the Metaverse. In recent weeks, Kuble has built a virtual gallery that can be visited with a VR headset, laptop or smartphone. All artworks can also be purchased as NFT.
Fusion of different worlds
"My art is about exploring life," says Karin Schiffmann, born in 1952. "On the canvas, I create chaos while experimenting with the colors and painting. This joy of turmoil and the subsequent painterly path to harmony are where I take my daily inspiration from." The artist lives in Schaffhausen, her studio is located in Flurlingen in the canton of Zurich.
"The metaverse fascinates me very much," says Karl Albert Jansen, born in 1947. The fascination may also be due to the fact that he works on his etchings with an identical technique, as Albrecht Dürrer did more than 500 years ago. The fusion of the centuries-old technique with today's possibilities of virtual reality in the metaverse result in the special charm of this exhibition. Jansen lives and works in Vallamond in the canton of Vaud.
"Exhibiting art in the Metaverse offers an enormous number of new possibilities," said Olivia Schiffmann, Managing Partner at Kuble AG and artistic director of the exhibition, in her opening speech. "I'm particularly pleased that both exhibiting artists are around 70 years old - that clearly shows: the Metaverse is there for all generations and by far not only for Generation Z."
Art also works in the metaverse
In addition to the vernissage, there was the premiere of the book "Digital Assets & Tokenization" by Lidia Kurt and Domenic Kurt from the digital asset consulting firm Vision&. A reading from it took place simultaneously on site and in the Meta Gallery. The book provides a holistic view of digital assets and a practical presentation of the topic based on their real-life experiences over the past years. The book is completed and will be available in stores soon.
The approximately 200 invited guests were impressed: a virtual exhibition is a great opportunity to reach many more people with one's own art and, above all, to reach other people. For artist Karin Schiffmann, the experiment was a success: "I perceive the power and authenticity of my paintings in the metaverse as well," she said, "that amazed me and at the same time made me very happy."
